North Wales Opera Studio: Rigoletto
to · North Wales and England
North Wales Opera Studio presents Verdi's "Rigoletto". You might not know the name, but you almost certainly know the tunes! Here is Pavarotti's rendition of "La donna è mobile" – I promise you, you've heard it somewhere! The story The Duke of Mantua enjoys fine wine, thrilling parties and terrible debauchery. He seduces and lies to women before abandoning them for his next victim. Rigoletto is his faithful court jester. With his acidic tongue, he aids and abets the Duke's crimes. When Gilda, Rigoletto's own daughter, is kidnapped by the duke's henchmen... Rigoletto chooses vengeance. He will regret it. The ear-worm melodies of this opera are some of the most famous classical music ever. You've probably heard them somewhere on TV or in film. My role I am assistant music director for this production. I've been learning the score on the piano, as you can see in this not-entirely-serious video: I will be playing for all the rehearsals and supporting the conductor. However, I will not be performing as there is no piano part in the orchestra. Performances All performances can be booked here Wed 13 May, 19:00 – Llangollen Town Hall Sat 16 May, 14:30 and 19:00 – St George's Hall: Concert Room, Liverpool Sun 17 May 2026, 19:00 – Shrewsbury Abbey Explanation of my video above B double flat major: This describes the notes of the chord. B-flat major is common but B double-flat major is very rare and confusing! This is because it’s actually 2 notes below the printed note. The notes are completely different to what they look like.
