This evening's multi-disciplinary performance interweves song, the environment, drama and history. It centres on Rosa Luxemburg who was assassinated for her political activity. We will relate her life to the present-day climate crisis. Can you and I change the world for the better? Featuring writer and actor Amanda Douge and mezzo-soprano Amy Kearsley. (Find Amy on Instagram) The music Mezzo-soprano Amy Kearsley and I met in the Lake District last year. We will perform around five songs by Schubert, Chopin and other composers of the romantic period. There’ll be words by Rosa Luxemburg’s favoured poets, Goethe and Mickiewicz. The songs are interwoven with Amanda’s monologues. What will the performance be like? If you are used to standard concerts, please note that this evening will be very different. It's a theatrical performance with music. The event is focused on the climate crisis. Rosa Luxemburg was a major political figure and the performance is therefore likely to contain political topics and opinions. Parts of the performance contain graphic and violent themes. From the organisers Amanda's literary performance “Rosa Luxemburg and I” aims to release the radical, ecological imagination towards new, revolutionary ways of being. In this piece, historical figure and socialist revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg becomes a conduit for reflection on earth systems damage, the capitalist status quo and eco-socialist potentials. The performance asks: can our individual "I" find its way to climate revolution and solidarity? Venue information Kairos is a club dedicated to addressing the climate emergency and related topics. Phones and electronic devices are not allowed to be used in the building. Accessibility Unfortunately, most events take place in the basement which has stair access only.

North Wales Opera Studio presents Verdi's "Rigoletto". You might not know the name, but you almost certainly know the tunes! Here is Pavarotti's rendition of "La donna è mobile" – I promise you, you've heard it somewhere! The story The Duke of Mantua enjoys fine wine, thrilling parties and terrible debauchery. He seduces and lies to women before abandoning them for his next victim. Rigoletto is his faithful court jester. With his acidic tongue, he aids and abets the Duke's crimes. When Gilda, Rigoletto's own daughter, is kidnapped by the duke's henchmen... Rigoletto chooses vengeance. He will regret it. The ear-worm melodies of this opera are some of the most famous classical music ever. You've probably heard them somewhere on TV or in film. My role I am assistant music director for this production. I've been learning the score on the piano, as you can see in this not-entirely-serious video: I will be playing for all the rehearsals and supporting the conductor. However, I will not be performing as there is no piano part in the orchestra.
