hostile terrain

for solo piano

autumn–winter 2021c. 33 mins

Harsh landscapes, cruel weather and the sound of a flagpole cable rapping in the wind fed into this intense and distressing cycle. It originally began with piece number 2, floating rain in summer 2021, with the note “floating puff seed balls in sunlight.”

Writing hostile terrain was a process of looking inward as a composer, searching for the way I want to compose and exploring the spectrum between exploration of gestures, soundscapes and traditional melodic writing.
